
Jack Mitchell is a regional Filmmaker from County Offaly with a passion for boundary pushing and darkly comedic storytelling. With a specialization in Screenwriting and Fiction Direction, they honed their craft at Trinity College Dublin, where they studied Film Studies and English Literature and operated as the Secretary for the DU Film Society. Their works explore contemporary social issues, employing dynamic cinematography, experimental editing and genre blending narratives.
Jack’s award winning debut short film, The Power Hour with Birch Stratton, won the Best Comedy Short Film award at the Dublin University Film Festival.
In 2024, Jack completed their second short film, Wet Sheets, with their filmmaking collective, Tara Hill Productions. The film is currently making its way through the festival circuit, with screenings planned for Summer 2025.
Jack is currently working on their second and third feature-length screenplays:
Get Him in the Room, a dark comedy exploring contemporary issues surrounding success, masculinity and how they are presented online.
And, Sophie’s Room, an erotic thriller that tackles themes of identity, ownership and surveillance in the social media age.
Along with this Jack is currently working on a documentary on the experiences of a Japanese immigrant in Dublin’s rental market.
Beyond Screenwriting and Directing, Jack is a passionate graphic designer and has curated pitch decks, look books and stylized treatments for grant applicants over the past 6 years. They have also worked on commercial and documentary film crews, spending the past year working as a camera assistant on shoots for the likes of RTE and Orchards Thieves Wild.
Jack also makes video essays for the Youtube channel, The Rule of Three, discussing topics relating to film production, theory, direction and more.
Jack has worked with production companies in Ireland and the UK, acting as a post-production trainee in the Alley Cats TV offices in Derry and as a camera operator for Purple Media on a shoot in Birmingham.
As the founder of Tara Hill Productions, Jack has set course for the horizons of a fruitful future for himself and indigenous talent within the Irish film sector with a lifelong goal of establishing Ireland as a landmark destination for creative voices in the greater world of cinema.
